Brazil

Brazilian cotton is known as a successful case story in the world. Brazil went from being one of the largest importers of cotton lint during the 90's to being the 5th largest producer and the 4th cotton exporter in less than 15 years. Currently, the country produces approximately 1.7 million tons of cotton and during this year's harvest, exports should represent approximately 485 thousand tons.

Brasil

The Brazilian revolution in cotton production was the result of the spirit of entrepreneurship of Brazilian growers who, after making significant investments in state-of-the-art technologies, produce cotton of excellent quality. Productivity is high and producers are committed to promoting social and environmental sustainability. An extensive and competent public and private network generates knowledge and the needed technological innovations in the field to support the activities developed by cotton growers. This system is backed by the federal and State governments.

The State of Goiás, seat for the WCRC-6 and the 2016 ICGI Conference, is located in the central region of Brazil and is the third largest cotton producing state in Brazil. Since growers employ the latest technological developments, the cotton lint produced in the State is known for its quality, and production practices adhere to social and environmental sustainability principles. The cotton produced in Goiás supplies domestic and the foreign markets.

During the WCRC-6 and the 2016 ICGI Conference discussions, the exchange of knowledge will greatly contribute to enhance cotton growing practices throughout the world, notably in those countries located in the tropics, such as Brazil, neighboring countries in South America and the African countries in the same latitude. Having in Brazil researchers from several regions of the world with different specialties sharing their knowledge and experience will certainly bring about significant advances and solutions for the problems cotton growers are facing.

Brazil will be the sixth country to host the WCRC, previously held in Australia, Greece, South Africa, The United States and India. Holding an event of this magnitude is a privilege and a great opportunity for Brazil and for Goiás. English is the official language of the event. Simultaneous translations into Portuguese and Spanish will be offer during the Plenaries and Keynote sessions. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit cotton fields and research areas, since the event will take place during harvest season in Brazil. Everyone will have the chance to experience the world-famous Brazilian hospitality.
